The first Bedouin settlement established in the new wave of permanent towns in the Negev. Members of the Tarabin tribe had been living in a dispersed encampment near the town of Omer, hindering its development and expansion. After examining several alternative sites, a location along Route 31 with no land ownership claims was selected. The planning was preceded by a modification of regional plan 33/14/4 and the development of a unique methodology for establishing a new Bedouin town, bridging statutory planning requirements and the cultural traditions of Bedouin society.
The design respects the tribal structure, affords privacy through natural boundaries, and separates extended family clusters using the topography. The town integrates housing with agriculture, auxiliary farmsteads, and livestock, alongside local employment including a women's empowerment center. Total: 1,085 housing units across 1,130 dunams.
